Lufthansa and Finnair have landed - Summer 2019 memories

Summer 2019 went so fast. Now we want to share some memories of it for all our readers.

Hiidenniemi Farm had a busy summer. We want to share the summer memoirs to everyone's delight. Construction were made eg. as for the summer kitchen, the barn has been refurbished and cast new ground. New animals also came to the farm during the summer: the ducklings hatched and the chickens hatched variably and the peacock brothers Arttu and Perttu moved to the farm. Just like it´s said, summer is over sooner than it comes, every year. This was the case this year too, and especially for us in the farm, when it feels like we spring here and there in a hurry all summer long. The farm prepares for the opening of the animal yard with many jobs, construction and repairs. The opening ceremony will take place in the spring of 2020. The animals have already become a little familiar to visitors in small groups. Guests who have spent their holidays in Hiidenniemi log homes or in the other cottages in the area have been visiting us.  Ali-pony has been working already, when the smallest visitors have been caring and riding with him. Border Collie dogs Tahti and Loru have been in their element to showcase their herding skills. Peacock boys Arttu and Perttu are always a delight in all their magnificence. We have a top animal gang here, just like our people, too!

Highway 4H club

 In the early summer four sheep moved to the farm. We call them “4H clubbers” Hippa, Hipsu, Hienohelma and Harakka. This quad is captivating and will surely melt our visitors' hearts. The sheeps traveled a long distance in a van, safe but sure very exciting for them. It was a hot day when we drove to the farm late at night with the quad and arrived at night at their new home. The sheep must have been wondering about the new scents and the environment, even when the lights were off all over the farm! Two ducks of very different colors also moved to our farm. We named one Finnair and another Lufthansa. These are the real runners of the yard. Finnair arrives at the orchard "home for the evening", the other runs a little running and past the gate..Lufthansa.

Rally peacocks Arttu ja Perttu

Indian blue coloured and full brothers, peacocks Arttu and Perttu moved to the farm during the Jyväskylä Rally in August. They came from northern part of finland, but we met with their breeder in Pieksämäki, a city near to us.

Both boys are very curious and calm. They love to eat prunes, cottage cheese, uncooked mashed potatoes and salads. The REAL fitness diet for them :D

The boys like to watch farm outdoor activities from the window, this way it's safe to see what other guys are up to.

The chickens have also moved their barn out of the summer garden, so interesting conversations are heard. Roosters like to scream early in the morning, peacocks scream only when the lights are turned on.

We visited the milk dock – event called Maitolaituri!

This summer we visited with animals at the Maitolaituri (milk dock) event Kangasniemi. The animals received a landscaping and saw the world outside the farm. We will continue to visit different events in the future and this summer was a good exercise for our yard animals.

What is a data collar? How do dogs know how to shepherd? Many questions and amazement!

The first guests of the farm this summer were a Finnish-French retired couple with their Finnish grandchild. Visitors were most amazed by the cattle data collars that collect information on cows rearing and eating. Other topics of wonder were: how chickens get chicks and how a border collie can shepherd so well. Both children and adults run into something that, especially for urban people, is hardly ever encountered, and thus one cannot even think about it. We answer the exciting questions of the animal and rural world and so the worldview is expanding 😊

When winter comes, the animals get ready for bed earlier in the evening

When winter is coming, it can be seen in our animals. They also have an internal clock to get them to bed. Ducks seem to be happy to come back from the yard to the pens to sleep, and anyway, all the animals seem to be calmed down earlier and go to sleep.

There are many ways to prepare the farm for the winter: the barn has been refurbished and the sheep sheds have been made, three factory-made horse pens have been assembled, the outdoor barn fence has been replaced with a chase animal fence and many other things, just name them. What a work! The forage harvest was already collected in July, and in September we worked with straw bales.

Sleigh rides in the end of the year

Starting on December 9th, our visitors will enjoy sleigh rides, but with the weather permitting, though: when it's very icy or snowy, riding on a sled is neither comfortable nor safe for anyone on the sled or Nelli horse. When the weather is good, please book your sleigh ride well in advance for a smaller or larger groups. Oh, one more thing, we have a kitten, the sweetest in the world 😊 She is called Tiger “Tiikeri”, born in July 2019. Follow her and our other farm animal also on Instagram @hiidenniemi.farmi.

Touhukas kesä 2019

Seuraa blogiamme, kuulet tarinoita farmistamme ja siitä, miten 2020 avattava kotieläinpiha valmistuu. Hiidenniemi farmilla oli touhukas mennyt kesä ja tässä kesän muisteloita kaikkien iloksi. Rakennuspuuhia tehtiin mm. kesäkeittiön osalta, navettaa on kunnostettu ja valettu uutta pohjaa. Myös uusia eläinasukkaita tuli farmille kesän aikana: ankanpoikaset kuoriutuivat ja kanat hautoivat vaihtelevasti ja riikinkukkoveljekset Arttu ja Perttu muuttivat farmille. Ei ole turha sanonta, että kesä menee nopeammin ohi kuin se tulee. Näin tänäkin vuonna ja erityisesti meillä farmilaisilla, kun tuntuu että 100-lasissa painettiin menemään koko kesä. Farmilla valmistaudutaan monen työn, rakentamisen ja korjaamisen kera kotieläinpihan avajaisiin. Avajaisia päästään viettämään keväällä 2020. Eläimet ovat jo vähän saaneet tuntumaan kävijöistä, tosin vielä pienissä ryhmissä. Sekä Hiidenniemen hirsihuviloissa että muissa lähialueen mökeissä lomaa viettäneet asiakkaat ovat käyneet meillä paikan päällä. Ali-poni on päässyt työn touhuun, kun pienimmät kävijät ovat sitä hoitaneet ja päässeet myös ratsastamaan Alilla. Bordercolliet Tahti ja Loru ovat olleet elementissään esitellessään paimentamistaitojaan. Riikinkukot Arttu ja Perttu ovat aina ihastelun aihe kaikessa komeudessaan, kumpainenkin. Meillä on ihan huippueläinjengi täällä, samoin kuin ihmiset!

Maanteiden 4H-kerho

Alkukesästä farmille muutti neljä lammasta, "4H kerholaiset" Hippa, Hipsu, Hienohelma ja Harakka. Tämä nelikko on valloittava ja tulee taatusti sulattamaan kävijöiden sydämet. Lampaat matkasivat pitkän matkan pakettiautossa, turvallisesti kyllä mutta taatusti niille itselleen jännittävästi. Vielä kun sattui olemaan kuuma päivä juuri silloin kun heidät haettiin, ajeltiin iltamyöhään farmille ja nelikko saapui yön hämärissä uuteen kotiinsa. Mahtoi olla ihmettelemistä, uudet ympäristön tuoksut mutta valot oli jo sammutettu koko farmilta! Aamulla sitten nelikko ihmetteli yhdessä uutta kotiaan ja ympäristöä, mutta nopeasti antoivat Hyväksytty-leiman farmillemme.

Finnair ja Lufthansa kaakattavat peräkanaa pihalla

Farmille muutti myös kaksi hyvin kirjavan näköistä ankkaa. Nimesimme toisen Finnairiksi ja toisen Lufthansaksi. Nämä ovat todellisia pihan kiitureita. Finnair tulee perille eli tarhaan ”illaksi kotiin”, toisella menee vähän juoksu pitkäksi ja portista ohitse..Lufthansa.

Rallikukot Arttu ja Perttu

Intian siniset väriltään ja täysveljekset, riikinkukot Arttu ja Perttu muuttivat elokuussa Jyväskylän rallien aikaan meille. Tulivat vähän pohjoisemmasta, tavattiin kuitenkin kasvattajan kanssa Pieksämäellä.
Molemmat pojat ovat hyvin uteliaita ja rauhallisia. Ne tykkäävät syödä kovasti luumuja, raejuustoa, maustamatonta rahkaa ja salaattia. Oikea fitnessdietti molemmilla :D
Pojat seurailevat kovasti ikkunoista ulkoelämää, sisällä on hyvä tarkkailla, mitä muut kaverit touhuavat ulkona.
Kanat ovat myös muuttaneet navettaan kesätarhasta, joten mielenkiintoisia keskusteluja on tiedossa. Kukot tykkäävät kiekua aikaisin, riikkipojat kiekuvat vasta sitten kun valot sytytetään.

Me käytiin maitolaiturilla!

Kesällä käytiin eläinten kanssa Kangasniemen Syvälahdessa Myräkkä ry:n Maitolaituri tapahtumassa. Eläimet saivat maisemanvaihdosta ja näkivät maailmaan farmin ulkopuolella. Jatkossakin meillä on tarkoitus vierailla eri tapahtumissa, jos ja kun ehditään ja tämän kesäinen olikin hyvää harjoitusta eläimille.

  

Mikä on datapanta? Miten koirat osaavat paimentaa niin hienosti? Monta kysymystä ja ihmetyksen aihetta!

Farmin ensimmäiset vieraat olivat tänä kesänä suomalais-ranskalainen eläkeläispari, suomalaisen lapsenlapsensa kanssa. Vieraita ihmetytti eniten nautojen datapannat, jotka keräävät tietoa naudan kiimasta ja syömisestä. Muita ihmetyksen aiheita oli mm. miten kanat saavat tipuja ja miten bordercollie osaa paimentaa niin hienosti. Sekä lapset että aikuiset törmäävät meillä asioihin, joita ei varsinkaan kaupunki-ihmisille tule vastaan juuri milloinkaan eikä asioita osaa siten edes miettiä. Meillä ihmeellisen eläin- ja maalaismaailman kysymykset saa vastauksia ja maailmankuva laajenee 😊

Talvi tulee, eläimet vetäytyvät yöpuulle aikaisemmin illalla

Syksyn ja talven lähestymisen näkee eläimissä mm. siten, että niilläkin sisäinen kello aikaistaa nukkumaan menoa. Ankat pyrkivät vapaudesta takaisin tarhoihin yöksi nukkumaan ja muutenkin kaikki eläimet tuntuvat rauhoittuvan yhä aikaisemmin ja aikaisemmin yöpuulle.
Talveen valmistaudutaan farmin osalta monella tapaa: navettaan ollaan uusittu lattia ja lampaiden karsinat on myös tehty sinne, kolme tehdastekoista hevoskarsinaa on koottu, ulkona olevan pihaton aita on vaihdettu riista-aidaksi, kylmäpihatto on tyhjennetty alusista ja uudet laitettu tilalle ja kaikki 72 hiehoa on otettu sisälle. Huh heijaa! Rehusato kerättiin jo heinäkuussa, syyskuussa ahkeroitiin olkipaalien kanssa.

Joulukuun 9.pvä eteenpäin meillä pääsee nauttimaan rekiajelusta, säävarauksella tosin: jos on kovin jäistä tai vähän lunta, ei reellä ajo ole kovin mukavaa eikä myöskään turvallista kenellekään, reessä olijoille tai Nelli-hevosellekaan jääkelillä.

Thoughts of Tahti dog and Kyllikki chicken

” Wuf wuf, my name is Tahti. I was born in 2015 and soon I will turn to 5 years old. I'm the shepherd-line border collie.
My human friends say that I'm smart, but sometimes a little duffer. At work I want to be really, really accurate and I always try to anticipate things. Sometimes my speed does not slow down easily, and then there will be enough extra hurry. Kind I am, and when asked to calm down, then yes, I calm down. Things should be done so carefully, nothing should be left out of consideration, which place should be, what if even one calf goes in the wrong direction and and and… though and what.

When I'm not working, I can say that I'm pretty calm. I like kids very much, those lovely little people, miniatures of the adults. No matter of the age of kids , I am happy to quote my toys even to those little babies who are sitting in their place 😊 

When I´m not working, the best thing to do with me is the play. Ball, oh heavenly wonderful ball! Why don't people understand that it's the best thing in the world when you get a four-stroke bow, bring it back and go after it when someone throws it? I'm not bored with running the ball and returning it to a human friend. People sometimes get bored, even if I had picked up the ball tens of times. The ball is one of the best inventions of man, is it the inventor who has received a prize? If not, at least he should get, I think. Something like a spherical shaped statue would be a good prize. Or a chewing bone!

So, then, there are those people who run after the ball, on the big green field and try to kick the ball into such a cage system. Why should you give up that ball? Sometimes when the box (you might be right by the name of the television) shows running after the ball, is it football now, I look desperate when people give up the ball and kick it away !!! No, nooo,  not about, I could jump there into the box and retrieve the ball when it is about to be abandoned. Oh boy how different we dogs and human really are.

“Me and my flock of chickens came to the farm in June 2018. Me, Kyllikki, I am parasitic equal domestic chicken and chicken flock´s leader. Well, let´s say that I might not be the strongest and a real leader but I surely can keep the disciples for younger chicks. Our flock is quite big, there are currently 9 chickens and 6 roosters and 2 babies.

Other chickens whine me because I am so curious. They say there's no need to put the beak in every place. If not, how  to know what´s happening. Baceause of the curiosity, I know what's going on here on the farm. Sometimes there is a terrible hassle on the farm, people runs here and there, they have a lot of things to do. And then the dogs, Tahti and Loru and the other guys, run and shepherd. More speed for the dogs will be if someone throws a ball at it. Oh, no, I wouldn't go after the ball, but under the ball, I'll get away.

Then we have Paavo rooster ... <3 Paavo is so wonderful, a real gentleman! We have a special place with Paavo, where we are cuddling and talking, in a roost at the barn doorway. There we spend time together and just look around the farm. The rest of the flock does not often sit there in a roost, our special place.

Sometimes when I get bored, I may tease the farm dogs. To have some fun with the chickens, and the runners behind the ball, Tahti and Loru dogs are a great target for a little bit of fun. But we are all friends at the end. Farm life is easy and comfortable.”

TAHTI

”Hau vaan, minä olen Tahti. Olen syntynyt 2014 eli nyt 5-vuotias ja rodultani olen paimenlinjainen bordercollie.
Ihmisystävät sanovat, että olen fiksu, mutta välillä vähän tohelo. Töissä haluan olla tosi, tosi tarkka ja yritän jatkuvasti ennakoida asioita. Joskus saattaa kaasu ja kierrokset jäädä päälle ja silloin ylimääräistä touhua ja vauhtia piisaa. Kilttihän minä olen ja kun pyydetään rauhoittumaan, kyllä minä sitten rauhoitun. Asiat vaan pitää tehdä niin tarkasti, mitään ei saa jättää huomioimatta, joka paikkaan pitää ehtiä, mitä jos vaikka yksi vasikka lähtee väärään suuntaan ja ja ja…vaikka ja mitä.

Kun en tee töitä, sanovat että olen aika rauhallinen. Lapsista tykkään kovasti, ne ihanat pikkuihmiset, miniatyyrit isommista. Lasten iällä ei niinkään ole väliä, lainaan mielelläni myös niille ihan pienille, paikallaan köllötteleville vauvoille lelujani. Ei ne pienet niitä riko kun en minäkään saa leluja rikki jollei se kuuluisa kaasu jää pohjaan 😊

Työn ulkopuolella minulle ihan paras lempipuuha on noutoleikki. Pallo, oi taivaallisen ihana pallo! Mikseivät ihmiset ymmärrä, että se on ihan paras asia maailmassa, kun saa jousta nelitahtisesti pallon perässä, tuoda sen takaisin ja lähteä taas sen perään, kun joku sitä heittää? Minä en kyllästy pallon perässä juoksemiseen ja sen palauttamiseen ihmiskaverille. Ihmiset joskus kyllästyvät, vaikka olisin noutanut VASTA kymmeniä kertoja palloa. Pallo on kyllä yksi ihmisen paras keksintö, onkohan sen keksijä saanut jonkun palkinnon? Jos ei, ainakin pitäisi saada, olen sitä mieltä. Joku pallon muotoinen pysti olisi hyvä palkinto. Tai herkkuluu!

Niin, sittenhän on niitä ihmisiä, jotka juoksevat myös pallon perässä, isolla vihreällä nurmikoilla ja koittavat potkaista pallon sellaiseen verkkosysteemiin. Miksi siitä pallosta pitää luopua? Joskus kun näkölaatikosta (taitaa olla oikealta nimeltään televisio) tulee tuota pallon perässä juoksua, onko se nyt sitä jalkapalloa, minä katson ihan epätoivoisena, kun ihmiset luopuu siitä pallosta ja potkaisee sen kauas!!! Eiiiiiiii ei noin, voisin itse hypätä sinne näkölaatikkoon ja hakea pallon takaisin, kun siitä noin vaan luovutaan. Kyllä me koirat ja ihmiset ollaan erilaisia.

Kohta on kesä! Mikä ihanuus ja autuus juosta pellolla, pallonkin perässä.

Meitä on kaksi bordercollieta. Vieressäni oikealla Loru, minua vanhempi (ja viisaampikin :) )

KYLLIKKI

”Minä ja kanaparveni muutettiin tänne farmille kesäkuussa 2018. Olen Kyllikki, iittiläinen maatiaiskana ja kanaparveni johtaja. No juu, yleensä pahnan pohjimmainen mutta kyllä minä nuorempia kanoja aina paimennan ja kurmutan. Parvi on aika suuri jo, meitä on tällä hetkellä 9 kanaa ja lisäksi 6 kukkoa ja 2 tipulasta.

Muut kanat kotkottavat välillä minulle, kun olen kuulemma niin utelias. Ne sanoo, ettei nokkaa tarvitse laittaa joka paikkaan. Jos ei laita, ei tiedä. Minä kun laitan niin tiedän mitä täällä farmilla tapahtuu. Välillä on hirmuinen hulina päällä, ihmiset menee ees taas, niillä riittää tekemistä. Ja sitten koirat, Tahti ja Loru ja muut niiden kaverit, juoksevat ja paimentavat. Se Tahti sekoaa vallan jos joku heittää sille palloa. Voi heltat sentään, minä en lähtisi pallon perään, pallon alta kyllä pinkaisen karkuun.

Niin, parvessa on muitakin kuin me kanaset. Paavo…<3 Paavo-kukko on kyllä niin ihana, oikea kukkoherrasmies! Meillä on Paavon kanssa ihan oma paikka missä kotkotellaan ja kiekaistaan, navetan oviaukon luona oleva orsi. Siellä me vietetään aikaa yhdessä ja tähystellään. Muut parvesta ei juurikaan orrella istuskele.

Joskus kun on tylsää tai muuten vaan satun sille päälle, härnään vähän koiria. Niille on hauskaa lällätellä verkon takaa vesiautomaattitelineellä. Vaikka koiria ärsyttää lällättelyt, olen turvassa. Pitäähän sitä kananeidillä jotakin hauskaa olla ja pallon perässä juoksijat ovat oiva kohde ihan pienelle jäynälle. Kavereita me kaikki kuitenkin lopun perin ollaan. Farmielämä on leppoisaa ja vaihtelevaa.”

Towards to the spring & summer and the scenery is changing fast!

In the first blog story you will hear about the staff, people on the farm and the plans we have for animal farm. We have just started to build up the animal yard to be opened for visitors in spring 2020. What exactly the construction stages will bring, we do not know exactly yet, but we look forward to the future!

Our story will surely include funny twists and events from the sight of the farm animals who we will  introduce in following blog posts. We have real personalities on the farm, you can meet them on the spot as soon as the animal farm is opened in all its glory to visitors in 2020.

History must always be told a little, right? Here it comes, just briefly.
Our farm already has a long history behind it. Farm has once been a dairy farm with 8 cows. Managing the farm was transferred from father to daughter, and in 1997, in connection with the expansion of the farm, the number of dairy cows also increased from 8 to 23, and the breed turned into black-and-white cows, with a better breeding structure.

In 2001, Hiidenniemi log homes were built up and completed on Hiidenniemi Farm, near the shore of the lake, and with this name the cabins are known today. They are part of the Rock and Lake network log homes, a wide range of the rental cottages in the area.

Hiidenniemi log homes are located on the shore of the very fishy Lake Härkäjärvi.
In the pics one of the cottages, Hiidenkivi, which comfortably accommodates 8 people.

In the following year 2002, the marketing of log homes began to be used for rental all year round, and it still continues today.
Recently, in 2017, there was also a change in the direction of production: nowadays, heifers are raised on the farm. Breeding and production are constantly being developed.

At present, as sayed, the farm is transformed into a functional animal farm for visitors with activities for children and adults, and for example, for companies to spend their recreation day.

Our farm is located in Kangasniemi, Kutemajärvi, with good access from Kangasniemi, Joutsa, Mikkeli, Jyväskylä and Pieksämäki. The distance from Mikkeli city is 60 kilometers, 83km from Jyväskylä, 40km from Pieksämäki and only 20km from Kangasniemi. You can combine the farm visit and nearby city visits in your holiday.

Lake-Finland and the countryside are the most beautiful in the summer time and we are sure you will fall in love with natural peace and beauty. Visiting our farm and spending time in the countryside is a perfect contrast for the city vacation and the vivacity of it.

What kind of the day is the typical day on the farm, from the staff point of view?
Animals are accustomed to a particular circadian rhythm, meaning that also people of the farm are following this same rhythm, all year around from Monday to Sunday.
Normally, during the winter-autumn hours, the alarm clock wakes us up at 05.00-06.00. Even if you sometimes get tired of waking up this early, fatigue is over when you step in the barn. Animals are always happy right from the morning when they see us, the breakfast is coming, yummy! 😊 

The youngest farmers also sometimes participate
in Farm's work as well as Loru dog.

At 6 am, we are already working hard in the barn, where the ducks, quails, chickens and bunnies are currently living. They get food, water and new nest hay. Little chicks and possibly hatching chickens are checked and care is taken that they are all feeling well.

Ali pony and Nelli horse also get the food, vitamins and trace elements as well as water.

When the work in the barn is done, the rest of the day's work is considered. At the moment, the barn is being renovated and the renovation alone will add extra work to normal.

The residents of the barn wait for people and breakfast in the morning. 

In the summertime, the daily routines described above goes quite the same way. The difference with animals is that they are in the pasture and full-feeds are served on the "table", in the pasture for them. If your pedometer were on your wrist, you could easily get up to the day's goal in the morning hours!

In spring and summer, we also do much more than barn and animal farm work: fields are being rebuilt including spreading manure, plowing and regenerating. In addition, new fences are being made and fixed, and in the spring, hay seeds are sown in the field, so that the crop can be harvested for the coming winter and the cattle can get in the pasture late in July and August.
And the last but not least, Hiidenniemi log homes are also taken good care for customers.

All this may sound like a harsh workload and that's what it is, but we are used to this kind of everyday life on the farm.

At this time of year, the animals react to spring: ducks start to lay eggs and some of the chickens are now sitting on the eggs second time during half a year. The sheer day affects the animals in the same way as we do to humans. With beautiful and sunny weather, the animals have spring in the fur, on the hooves and feathers and joyful running of them in the yard is great to watch with a smile.

Tervetuloa Hiidenniemi Farmin blogiin. Tässä ensimmäisessä blogikirjoituksessa kuulet farmin kotieläinpihasta sekä meistä, farmia ylläpitävästä isäntäväestä. Löydät meidät myös Instagramista ja Facebookista.

Kohti kevättä mennään ja maisemat muuttuvat vauhdilla!

Lähde mukaamme aikamatkalle tästä eteenpäin. Kuulet, kuinka farmin kotieläinpihaa rakennetaan vierailijoille avattavaksi keväällä 2020. Mitä kaikkea rakentamisvaiheet tuovat tullessaan, sitä emme vielä tarkalleen ottaen itsekään tiedä mutta mielenkiinnolla odotamme tulevaa!

Tarinaamme mahtuu varmasti hauskoja käänteitä ja tapahtumia myös farmin eläinasukkaiden näkövinkkelistä ja tulemme esittelemään eläimet seuraavissa blogikirjoituksissa. Meillä on varsinaisia persoonia farmilla, heitä pääset tapaamaan paikan päälle heti, kun kotieläinpiha avataan kaikessa komeudessaan vierailijoille.

Historiaa pitää aina kertoa hiukan, eikö vaan? Tässäpä sitä tulee. Farmillamme on jo historiaa takanaan. Se on toiminut aikoinaan lypsykarjatilana 8 lehmän voimin. Toiminta siirtyi isältä tyttärelle ja vuonna 1997 navetan laajennuksen yhteydessä myös lypsykarjan määrä kasvoi 23 lehmään ja rotu vaihtui musta-valkoisiksi lehmiksi, rakenteeltaan paremmaksi jalostuskarjaksi.

Vuonna 2001 Hiidenniemen Farmin maille, järven rannan läheisyyteen, valmistui Hiidenniemen hirsihuvilat ja tällä samalla nimellä ne tunnetaan tänäkin päivänä. Ne kuuluvat Rock and Lake-verkoston mökkeihin, joita on laaja valikoima lähialueella.

Hiidenniemen Hirsihuvilat sijaitsevat erittäin kalaisan Härkäjärven rannalla.

Heti seuraavana vuonna 2002 alkoi hirsihuviloiden markkinointi vuokrauskäyttöön ympärivuotisesti ja se jatkuu edelleen.

Hiljattain, vuonna 2017, tapahtui myös tuotannon suunnan muutos: nykyään tilalla kasvatetaan maitorotuisia hiehoja. Kasvatusta ja tuotantoa kehitetään jatkuvasti eteenpäin, samoin kuin farmin ja valmistuvan kotieläinpihankin toimintaa.

Farmin töihin osallistuvat välillä myös pienimmät farmilaiset
ja Loru-koira.

 

Farmimme sijaitsee Kangasniemen Kutemajärvellä hyvien kulkuyhteyksien päässä Kangasniemeltä, Joutsasta, Mikkelistä, Jyväskylästä. Mikkeliin matkaa on 60 km, Jyväskylään 83 km, Pieksämäelle 37km ja Kangasniemelle vain 20 km. Kun tulet meille lomailemaan tai vierailemaan lyhyemmäksi aikaa, samaan lomaan voit yhdistää sekä maatilamatkailun ja lähialueen kaupunkivisiitit. Järvi-Suomi ja maalaismaisemat ovat kauneimmillaan kesäkaudella ja jos betoniviidakosta tulet tänne maaseudun rauhaan, voimme olla melko varmoja, että ihastut ja rakastut luontoon ja sen kauneuteen ja rauhaan.

Millainen on tyypillinen päivä farmilla, näin isäntäväen vinkkelistä katsoen?
Eläimet kun ovat tottuneet tiettyyn vuorokausirytmiin, mennään me ihmisetkin sen mukaan kesät talvet, arki ja viikonloppu.
Normaalisti talvi-syksyaikaan aamulla herätyskello pärisee 05.00-06.00 aikaan ja vaikka joskus väsyttäisi niiiiiii-in vietävästi, menee väsymys ohi, kun pääsee navettaan eläinten luo. Niillä aamu alkaa aina iloisesti meidät nähdessään, aamupalaa tiedossa, nam 😊 Klo 6 jälkeen ollaankin jo täysillä töissä navetassa, jossa asustavat tällä hetkellä ankat, viiriäiset, kanat ja puput. Ne saavat ruokaa, vettä sekä uudet aluset. Pikku-tiput ja mahdollisesti hautomassa olevat kanat tarkistetaan ja pidetään huolta, että kaikki on niillä hyvin. 
Ali-poni ja Nelli-hevonen saavat rehut ja täysrehut sekä vedet.

Kun navettatyöt on saatu tehtyä, katsotaan päivän muut työt. Tällä hetkellä navettaa remontoidaan ja pelkästään remontti tuo väkisinkin lisäpuuhaa normaaliarkeen nähden.

Navetan asukkaat odottelevat aamulla iloisina ihmisiä ja aamupalaa.

Kesäaikaan ylläkuvattu arkirytmi menee aika lailla samaan tapaan. Erona eläinten kohdalla on se, että ne ovat laitumella ja täysrehut tarjoillaan ”pöytään” eli laitumelle niille. Jos askelmittari olisi ranteessa, saisi aamun tunneista jo päivän askeltavoitteen helposti täyteen!

Kevät ja kesäaikaan teemme myös paljon muutakin kuin navetta- ja kotieläinpihatöitä: peltoja uudelleen perustetaan eli levitetään lantaa, kynnetään, äestetään, kivikarhutaan, starttilannoitetaan, uudelleen äestetään. Lisäksi tehdään aitoja, ja keväällä kylvetään heinänsiemenen pelloille jotta sato saadaan talveksi ja naudat pääsevät myöhäislaiduntamaan vielä heinä-elokuussa.

Niin ja Hiidenniemen Hirsihuvilat pidetään myös kunnossa asiakkaita varten.

Saattaa kuulostaa hurjalta työmäärältä ja sitähän se onkin, mutta tällaiseen arkeen olemme farmilla tottuneet.

Tähän aikaan vuodesta eläimet reagoivat kevääseen: ankat aloittavat taas munimaan ja osa kanoista hautoo nyt puolenvuoden sisään jo toista kierrosta. Pitenevä päivä vaikuttaa eläimiin samalla tavoin kuin meihin ihmisiinkin. Kun on kaunis ja aurinkoinen sää, on eläimillä kevättä karvoissa, kavioissa ja sulissaan ja iloisia juoksupyrähtelyitä seurataan hymy huulilla.
